The British Dance Council (BDC) require that all open competitors are members of an Amateur Association before competing EADA is the association competitors need to join in England. There are also associations in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland
EADA was formed in 1986 when the British Amateur Dancers Association (BADA), which formed in 1968, split into its constituent countries for representation on the International Dancesport Federation (IDSF). The IDSF is the International governing body for dance and runs most of the Amateur competitions overseas, and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
As well as being a member of the IDSF, EADA is the only UK Dancesport Association (Professional or Amateur), which is recognised by Sport England, UK Sport, the National Olympic Committee and WADA (the World Anti Doping Association). EADA is also proud to have a child protection policy approved by the NSPCC and an equity policy approved by Sport England. EADA is also represented on the British Dance Council and its sub-committees; and works closely with the Exercise Movement and Dance Partnership and Central Council for Physical Recreation.
EADA became a company limited by guarantee on 28th May 2008 and can also trade as Dancesport England and Dancesport UK. EADA Ltd is run by a council of volunteers, with between 5 and 9 Directors. Details of the current council members can be found in our whos who.
